Five contemporary music ensembles – Caput (Iceland), defunensemble (Finland), Esbjerg Ensemble (Denmark), Norbotten NEO (Sweden) and Cikada (Norway) - join forces in offering a unique day and night of short concerts, each highlighting a selection of some of their favorite pieces together with first performances of exciting new works. Between each performance, ample time will be given for audience members and ensemble musicians to meet at the bar, mingle, relax and discuss the music which has just been played before entering the Northern Lights Hall again to hear what the next group has to offer. The setup in the hall allows for great intimacy between audience and musicians, thus providing a rare opportunity to immerse oneself in the limitless world of contemporary sounds.
The event starts at 13.00h with concerts every second hour.

James Dillon: Oslo/Triptych (2011) Jon Øivind Ness: Gimilen (2014) Scottish composer James Dillon is a household name in his home country, with commissioned works from and performances by many of the UK’s biggest orchestra and influential international ensembles. Oslo/Triptych was commissioned for Cikada in 2011 as part of a three-part project Dillon conducted with ensembles from Leuven, Oslo and New York. Dillon is known for his large-scale projects, such as Nine Rivers, the symphonic cycle of monumental proportions, but his smaller works are also impressive, often composed with specific musicians in mind. Oslo/Triptych includes Indian harmonium, an instrument often used by Cikada in recent years. Jon Øivind Ness' work Gimilen takes its name from two lakes in the woodlands north-east of Hakadal, Norway. He often draws on nature for his inspiration, and several of his works are named after lakes in the Oslo region. Gimilen had its première at the Klangspuren Festival in September 2014. The work was also performed and recorded by Cikada at Huddersfield Contemporary Music Festival, a recording which was released September 2015 on Lawo Classics, together with two works by Liza Lim.
