Salvatore Sciarrino, born in Palermo, was drawn to the visual art at a very young age and started experimenting with music when he was twelve years old. Except a few years in classic music training he is a self-taught composer. His way to developing classical music with adding electric elements and a unique way of combining different musical forms have opened up for new possibilities for singing and instrumental music. For this he was awarded BBVA Foundation Frontiers of Knowledge Award of Contemporary Music, in 2011.
