About the Event
With "Resonant Shadows," Cikada invites the audience into a world where sound is as much about what is heard as what is left unsaid. This program explores the fragile balance between resonance and silence, material and immaterial, in works by Francesco Filidei, Klaus Lang, and Gérard Pesson.
Programme:
Francesco Filidei
Cuorde Vuote (Open Strings, 2010)
Three Songs Without (2017)
Klaus Lang
Schumanns geister (2014)
Gérard Pesson
Nebenstück (1998)
Francesco Filidei’s Cuorde Vuote (Open Strings) unravels the raw, resonant potential of string instruments, turning the very act of bowing into a study of texture and decay. In Three Songs Without, Filidei crafts a song cycle without words—gestures and instrumental breathing take the place of text, creating a sense of voice in absence.
Klaus Lang’s Schumanns geister (Schumann’s Ghosts) is an enigmatic meditation on time and memory, where echoes of the Romantic era flicker in and out of perception. The work lingers in an ambiguous space between homage and deconstruction, letting faint traces of Schumann’s world drift through its delicate, spectral textures.
Gérard Pesson’s Nebenstück is a study in quiet detail, a miniature where every note feels like a carefully placed brushstroke on an almost invisible canvas. With its subtle harmonic shifts and fragile articulations, the piece exemplifies Pesson’s signature aesthetic—where music seems to exist on the verge of disappearing.
Through this program, Cikada explores the liminal space between sound and silence, inviting listeners into a world of spectral resonance, ghostly traces, and whispered musical gestures.
