About the Event
Curious about all the nuances of the grand piano? Cikada's Kenneth Karlsson, Christian Wallumrød, Jon Balke, Guoste Tamulynaite, and Anja Lauvdal will give you a spectrum of shades, possibilities, and expressions to tickle your ear canal and curiosity, when we put the three (!) grand pianos at Cikada studio forth.
We celebrate this unique collection and invite you to an intimate concert with five of Norway's most central and exciting pianists. Three grand pianos and five brilliant pianists are gathered – welcome to this special event!
About the pianists:
Freeform pianist and electronic musician Anja Lauvdal (born 1987) has an inimitable ability to conjure multiple sonic moods, reflecting on the fragility of the natural world while exhibiting a positive stillness. She's an established force on the Norwegian scene, running the All Ears festival and collaborating with Jenny Hval, Hamid Drake and William Parker, among others. She recently released her own debut album «From a story now lost» on Smalltown Supersound, produced by Laurel Halo.
Guoste Tamulynaite is an Oslo-based pianist and composer from Lithuania, who also works with improvised music, contemporary music, and interdisciplinary art projects. She has composed music for and played with many fine musicians in many various contexts, including during the Borealis festival, Vossajazz, Sildajazz, Mandaljazz, CODA dance festival and Ravnedans.
Jon Balke is a pianist, composer and orchestra leader based in the jazz tradition. He has created, led and played a part in iconic ensembles such as Jøkleba, Magnetic North Orchestra, Siwan, Masqualero, Oslo 13 and more, and has a long series of releases with these, mainly on the German company ECM records. He has composed music for film, orchestra, sinfonietta, theater and performing arts. He now works as an associate professor in music production at NMH in Oslo.
Christian Wallumrød has worked as a musician and composer since 1992, and he is considered one of the most prominent and influential musicians of his generation in Norway. He has had long-term collaborations with many of the most central ensembles and artists in Norway. Over the last few years Wallumrød has been commissioned to write for smaller chamber groups as well as bigger orchestras.
Kenneth Karlsson began his music career playing improv and rock and soon became interested in classical music. Kenneth has been pianist and artistic director in Cikada since 1989. He has toured around the world and recorded several albums. For his "...sofferte onde serene..." he got the Norwegian Grammy Award. Kenneth has also worked with video, dance, and multimedia, and commissioned numerous works.
