A musical storytelling performance
A mother and son are wandering, begging from door to door. One day, the boy knocks on a large, red-painted door. Behind it lives someone who will change their lives forever. This sets off a struggle against powerful forces, leading the boy on a wild adventure where he ultimately meets his habibi and finds himself before the King of Arabia. But how did he get there? And will he win the heart of his beloved?
The Blue Ribbon is an unconventional fairytale from Asbjørnsen and Moe, breaking expectations with unexpected twists while embracing magic, helpers, and a vibrant chaos that ties the East and West together. This performance is a collaboration between contemporary composer Maja Linderoth, storyteller Charlotte Øster, and the ensemble Cikada, where newly composed music is intricately woven into the narrative. The piece is a commissioned work for the Fortellerfestivalen and premieres as part of the festival's 2019 opening at Riksscenen.
